Nephews: Furry and otherwise

I was planning on going home on June 7.  My beautiful, favorite sister-in-law had a baby on June 5.  His name is Harrison Michael and he decided to come about 6 weeks early.  Can you blame him?  Anyone who has met our family knows we are awesome, and Harrison just wanted to meet us all a little sooner…

After I heard this news, I was more than tempted to hop into my car and drive home.  Then I remembered everything I had to do in the schools on the 6th.

So what did I do to occupy my time while I was super a(u)ntsy to go home and meet my new nephew?

I turned into a hunter and gatherer–minus the hunting part–and gathered several branches from the forest.  Many thanks to my dear friend–let’s call him “Tyrone” for the sake of confidentiality–who traipsed through the forest helping me gather sticks.

PART I: THE STICKS

Kilgore was intrigued.

Then he brushed his teeth…

And played a game of hide-and-seek…

And destroyed small cities…

And devoured said small cities’ inhabitants…

And judged.  Boy, did he ever judge.

Oh yeah, you may be wondering why I brought a small forest into my living room.  It was to make this frame:

Harrison’s hand and feet prints will occupy the blank space in the frame as soon as I get permission to paint the baby.

Many thanks again to “Tyrone” for his assistance in the construction of the frame, and for assuring me that although I burnt my finger on the hot glue that it would NOT, in fact, fall off.

PART IIa: THE NURSERY

(cat edition)

Ok, the main reason I was so a(u)ntsy to get home was to meet Harrison, but I also have a standing deal with family members I will paint their nurseries in exchange for nieces and nephews.  It’s a pretty solid deal.

My furry nephews, Jonah and Mister Yellow, were purrfectly happy to assist me in the painting of the nursery.

This is Jonah.

Jonah repeatedly jumped on me and forced me to cuddle mid-painting.

This is Mister Yellow.  He has to wear a t-shirt because he gnaws on his shoulder.

Sometimes when his Aunt Bubba was painting, he sauntered into the nursery sans t-shirt and Bubba had to replace his  shirt…sometimes that happened several times a day.

Yellow may have stepped into the paint and Bubba maybe had to hurriedly rush him downstairs to wash his paws.

If that happened, Yellow probably sat in a corner looking super-ashamed for awhile.

And finally, a caption contest!  What is Jonah thinking in this photo?  What is the owl thinking?  Why can I not think of a clever caption for such an amusing photo?

PART IIb: THE NURSERY

(nursery edition)

Harrison’s nursery will be decorated with a woodland theme.  Therefore the members of the family are represented as woodland creatures on the walls.

Grandma and Grandpa are birds.

Mimi and Papa are a raccoon and a badger.

Harrison’s Uncle Bear

My sister, brother-in-law, niece, and nephew are a foxy (albeit chubby, as pointed out by my sister) family

I am the softest porcupine ever, scooting up the wall.

Mister Yellow is a little yellow squirrel with a t-shirt he can never remove (without turpentine).

Jonah is a sneaky little squirrel, up to no good.

And here are the proud owly parents, overlooking the blank space along the wall that will contain the crib, and eventually, the Harrison!

Who's that squirrel creepin' up in the corner?

The nursery will look better with furniture, and will finally be complete when Harrison moves in!

PART III: THE HARRISON

What’s all this fuss about?  Why was I so frantic to get home?  Who is one of the most handsome fellas I have ever met?

This guy!

Harrison Michael is two weeks and one day old now, and is gaining weight and strength every day!

He already has a way of wrapping us around his little tiny fingers.

Er…wrapping his little fingers around us.

Aunt Bubba loves you, Harrison Michael!

Luckily for our readers, I was able to rent a time machine and take a picture of future-Harrison.

Human nephews, feline nephews, and time machines,

R

I am likewise unable to come up for a caption for such an awesome photo! No cat lady points for me this time around. Maybe if “Tyrone” had baked you bread, your finger would have felt better. Because he bake real good bread. Kudos again to the photoshop skillz AND nursery painting skillz!

That Tyrone seems like quite the fella. He’s such a wonderful photographer/stick collector/baker. He seems like quite the eligible bachelor!

Ann – you get cat lady points just for remembering how much Tyrone loves baking bread.

Not Tyrone – Your grammar is a lot better than Tyrone’s.

“I think you missed a spot.” (Caption contest winner??)
This is a great blog, and I especially enjoyed the latest picture of Harrison…I had been thinking that he had his daddy’s roundy head and his momma’s pretty eyes. But now I believe that his good looks come from Jonah’s side of the family.
